Degree Conferred Master of Science (M.Sc.) Duration 4 Semesters Enrollment Winter and summer semester Admission restriction No restricted admission Entry requirements Relevant Bachelor's degree (at least 180 CP) or in the case of a still missing degree at least 150 CP for 6-semester degrees respectively 180 CP for 7-semester degrees. The successful Bachelor's degree must then be submitted by 15.06. or 15.12. at the latest.

An average grade of at least 3.0 calculated from the examination results.

Proof of professional competence through at least
25 CP in the field of natural sciences and computer science (10 CP Mathematics, 5 CP Physics and 5 CP Computer Science),
10 CP in the field of construction,
10 CP in the field of technical mechanics,
20 CP in the field of technical engineering
as well as a 10-week internship in industry or business.

For international applicants:
Language assessment DSH level 2 (TestDaf 4x4, DSD II, Telc C1 Hochschule or equivalent)

If these required points of performance are not fulfilled, approval may be granted with require-ments with a maximum limit of 10 CP.

The aim of the Mechanical Engineering studies is to acquire a broad but at the same time detailed and critical understanding of the specialist knowledge. The ability to work independently with scientific methods, to acquaint oneself with the various tasks related to the application, research or teaching fields of activity and to cope with the frequently changing demands of their careers, is being developed.

Students acquire the ability to critically question opinions in their field, to solve upcoming prob-lems scientifically structured considering related disciplines and to creatively develop their disci-pline beyond the state of the art. They are able to present their proposed solution to colleagues and laymen respectively to impart their knowledge and to acquire new knowledge. Also based on limited information, graduates can make scientifically sound decisions taking into account social and ethical insights. They are able to take responsibility in a team.

A mandatory enrollment in a major is required upon matriculation at the latest.
At the center of the major "Product Develop-ment" is primarily the development, design and calculation of components, assemblies and complete systems. The major "Production Engineering" orients thereby increasingly on the use of machinery and equipment as well as on the determination of technological data for the targeted production starting from raw material to finished product. The major "Materials Technology" focusses on the scientific deepening of knowledge from the Bachelor studies for the construction, condition-ing, testing, analytical description and modeling of materials of all material classes. The major "Automotive Systems" provides an overview of the current and future drive systems and enables the scientific specialization in single systems up to the component level.

Career Perspectives

Fields of application are to be found in Mechan-ical Engineering, with its highest revenue sectors drive technoloqy, construction and civil engineering machinery, materials handling and machine tools as well as in the fields of food processing and packaging machinery, air technology, printing and paper technology, agricultural technology, fittings, fluid pumps, compressors, compressed air and vacuum technology, textile machinery , tool manufacturing, in the automobile, engine and supply industry as well as in mechatronics, electrical / electronic engineering, engineering offices, in aerospace engineering, in the iron, sheet metal and metal technology, medical technology and the plastic and building materials industry. Leading or self-employed activities in the in-vestment and consumer goods industry respec-tively in the engineering services as well as working in scientifically oriented research ranging from the practical development engineer to the work in science and education (research institutions as well as public service) offer broad and challenging fields of activity with excellent professional and personal development opportunities. With corresponding tendencies attractive jobs in technical sales are also open to graduates.

Competencies and Interests Required

Good knowledge in mathematics and science as well as technical fields; Interest in computer science, in thinking in systems and structures as well as in complex problem solving, in working in interdisciplinary teams and in taking over management responsibilities.

In the Master Course Mechanical Engineering teaching depends on the selected specialisation interdisciplinary oriented. Thus skills are devel-oped to engineer new materials and products as well as planning, developing and introducing of new factories, production strategies, machining processes, machines and equipment. Graduates are also capable of organizing and optimizing processes in purchasing, manufacturing, quality management, in shipping, commissioning and repair to the return and treatment of old products. This Master's degree gained at the Otto-von-Guericke-University is qualitatively and quantitatively equivalent to a diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
