Lecture: Gender research with the means of data science
Prof. Dr. Andrea Herrmann will talk about the proportion of women in the STEM subjects (STEM = science, technology, engineering and mathematics). The topic is the magical 30% threshold that the proportion of women would have to exceed for women to no longer be a minority. Even within the technical subjects and within computer science, women tend to work on the "soft" topics, which means that clichés also prevail here. The lecture will use data, figures and statistics to discuss mechanisms that lead to these gender-specific imbalances - both the seemingly voluntary choice of subjects and various selection mechanisms in professional life.
