Over 90 nations bring our campus and the city to life

Dear Students, Staff, Partners and Friends of the University of Magdeburg,

more than 3,500 international students from over 90 countries are enrolled at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, more than ever before in the history of our Alma Mater. Hundreds of academics from every continent research, teach and live on the campus in the center of the state capital, Magdeburg. Hundreds of graduates are working successfully around the world after completing their studies at the University Magdeburg. We have a broad international network of cooperation relationships in all areas of university life and are very successful en route to becoming an internationally visible university which is active all over the world.

At the 2018 Festival of Cultures, hundreds of students presented their nations and cultures in the Mark Fortress. The event takes place again this year.

Our foreign students and academics make a significant contribution to the development of our university, the city and also the state of Saxony-Anhalt, and are an indispensable aspect of university life for us all. Since the university was founded over 25 years ago, we have made a clear commitment to openness and tolerance and live this vision every day of our university lives.

We therefore emphatically oppose any contrary tendencies and would like to express our solidarity with our foreign fellow citizens, refugees and dissidents in view of the terrible events in Hanau and all other attacks.

Professor Dr.-Ing. Jens Strackeljan
President of Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg
