Louie Läuger's new book shows how many different ways there are to answer the question "What is gender?" on both a scientific and a personal level. Läuger questions both the relevance of supposed biological 'sex characteristics' and socially established gender norms, clarifies the difference between a biologistic and a social understanding of gender and addresses fundamental concepts such as intersectionality, intersex, gender identity and gender expression.
