Computer Systems in Engineering is the art of achieving new, innovative advances in different technical disciplines through the use of state-of-the-art computer technology. The programme focuses on the application of information technology in an engineering discipline such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering or process engineering. In addition to technical basics, students of Computer Systems in Engineering also acquire in-depth specialist knowledge in the fields of software engineering, simulation, modelling, algorithms and data structures, mathematics, security/reliability and specification technology

Career Perspectives

The proportion of software development costs in almost every technical discipline is increasing enormously, which is leading to an ever greater demand for computer systems engineers. Computer systems engineers occupy similar roles in the technical disciplines to business information specialists for IT organisations in companies. The business information specialist advises on the implementation of business processes in an efficient, custom-fit IT infrastructure. The computer systems engineer plans and designs the software for the control and monitoring of technical processes. As a computer systems engineer, you are optimally trained to satisfy these functions. In the course of your career, you will find that you are ideally suited to team and project management activities thanks to this ability to act as an interdisciplinary interface.

Competencies and Interests Required

Solid knowledge of mathematics and other natural sciences are important requirements for studying for this Bachelor’s degree. Candidates must also demonstrate an awareness of, and interest in, the rapid developments in Computer Science and be prepared to follow them and add to their skills and qualifications throughout their professional lives.

More information

This course is divided into core, mandatory and mandatory elective subjects. The core modules are attended by students on every course offered by the Faculty of Computer Science (e.g. mathematics, key and methodological competences). The mandatory area is tailored to each course, and the mandatory electives focus on the students’ specialisations. In addition, at the start of the course, an additional, minor subject must be selected. This Bachelor’s degree course may be followed directly by the corresponding Master’s degree course.
