Important Information Regarding the Start of Study

Welcome Weeks at the Begining of the Semeser

It is recommended that you join the events organized by the individual faculties during the Welcome Weeks. There, you will receive all the necessary information concerning the individual courses of study, the examination and study regulations, the ideal course of study, the exam registration and most importantly instructions on how to create your individual schedule. Besides meeting the faculty management, the professors, further academic staff and the examination offices, you will also have the chance to establish first contacts with your fellow students and the student representatives of the faculties. On top of that, you will be given a tour of the whole campus including the faculties, laboratories and workshops as well as the lecture halls and seminar rooms. You can find the current programme of the Welcome Weeks here. For some faculties, you need to register personally in the examination office. This affects the examination offices of the following faculties:

  • The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering  – only Bachelor and Master students that did not attend the events during the Welcome Weeks;
  • The Faculty of Process and Systems Engineering – all new students;
  • The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology – all new students.

Here you can find an overview of all examination offices.

Set schedules are not offered at all faculties and not for all study programmes. In order to create your schedule, you need to use the university’s LSF-portal. This portal is a service and information system used by current as well as prospective students, professors and staff of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. It provides information on courses,  persons, institutes, phone numbers and e-mail addresses as well as rooms. Furthermore, you can find detailed information on the room setup and its reservation. Students can create their individual schedule for every course of study. You can find an instruction on how to use the LSF-portal here.

Registration at the University Computing Centre (URZ)

Once students are enrolled in the university, they will automatically receive a computer account and an e-mail address. The account can be activated in two ways: either at an IT-Service-Terminal at the University Computing Centre in building 26 where you enter a password and accept the terms of use or online via this link. The OVGU account can also be used when you register on the LSF-portal, for courses at the university’s Language Centre and at the Sports Centre.

Language Courses

The Language Centre at the OVGU offers preparatory and extracurricular German courses as well as a variety of courses in different languages. The participation is subject to a charge.

Sport Courses

The Sports Centre at the OVGU is open to all students and offers more than 60 kinds of sport. Some of the courses are subject to a charge.
