Magdeburg. Individuals, associations, initiatives, companies and municipalities can now apply for the first-ever State Equality Award.

The deadline for applications is October 31, 2023.

Minister for Equality Petra Grimm-Benne, patron of the State Equality Award, said, "With this award, we want to honor the many inspiring women who work every day throughout Saxony-Anhalt for the equality of women and men. To give this commitment by and for women more visibility and attention, the state is offering the Equality Award for the first time."

The State Equality Awards will be presented at a ceremony on December 11, 2023 in Magdeburg by Equal Opportunities Minister Petra Grimm-Benne and State Equal Opportunities Commissioner Sarah Schulze.

The prize is awarded in the following categories:

Category 1: "Sustainable ways to reconcile work with family responsibilities, care responsibilities and volunteering".

This category is open to projects that contribute to a better reconciliation of professional activities with family tasks, caregiving tasks and volunteering. The focus is particularly on approaches aimed at single parents.

Category 2: "Living self-determined and free from violence".

This category honors projects that protect women and their children from violence, whether through prevention, education, awareness-raising, empowerment or assistance in acute cases. Special attention is given to vulnerable groups e.g. women with impairments, LGBTIQ*, refugee women, migrant women or homeless women.

Category 3: "Equality by overcoming gender stereotypes".

This category is intended to honor projects that contribute to overcoming gender stereotypes, raising awareness of gender equality issues, empowering girls and young women, and increasing gender equality literacy.

Category: "Outstanding personal commitment".

This category aims to honor innovative and creative engagement that contributes to improving women's living conditions (such as housing, healthcare, participation in education, mobility and culture).

The prize money for the first three categories is 1,000 euros; the prize for outstanding personal commitment is 500 euros.
