Event announcement: Body discourses and the body play an immense role in our present. We encounter them daily in their facets of malleability, availability, standardization, as prepared, presented or stigmatized bodies and thus become a seismograph for socially accepted or rejected practices. In recent decades, the body has also increasingly become the focus of academic interest (somatic turn or body turn), with gender and diversity dimensions also increasingly coming into focus and being considered and negotiated in the context of intersectional approaches. The lecture series “Body and Gender in an Interdisciplinary Perspective”, which will take place in the winter semester 2024/25, is located at this interface of body discourses and gender studies by taking up a broad range of topics on the diverse interrelationships and interdependencies of body and gender in an interdisciplinary manner. The aim is to make gender research and its relevance in various disciplines more visible, to promote it and thus to help shape a lively scientific exchange as well as to ensure a general transfer of knowledge on the individual topics.
