Global scientific and economic ties, unlimited communication possibilities and the increasing mobility of students and researchers demand a clear position in the area of internationalisation. With its particular tradition as a bridge between East and West, Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg sees itself as following in the spirit of a cosmopolitan university, and, moreover, maintains over 300 partnerships with 245 institutions in 60 countries at university, faculty and institute level.
Already, with 26.3 per cent of its students coming from over 100 foreign countries, the University of Magdeburg stands above the national average. Around 11% of teachers come from abroad too. Not only do they enrich the University's research and teaching, they are also building cultural bridges. The University of Magdeburg seeks to increase its international visibility and attractiveness in order to remain an attractive place in which to learn and work for excellent academics and students from all over the world.
Internationalisation is therefore a central, strategic element in the positioning of the University of Magdeburg when it comes to research and teaching competitiveness. Through the globalisation of the academic system it has become an essential regulating factor and serves as an engine for creativity and innovation in research, teaching and knowledge transfer.
