New master's degree in semiconductor and nanotechnology
Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg is expanding its study program range in the semiconductor and nanotechnology field. In addition to the professional training program for microtechnologists starting in August, with the Master’s program in Advanced Semiconductor Nanotechnologies, the coming winter semester will also see the start of a study program that will enable graduates to work in the semiconductor industry. The program is part of the location plan for the Intel site in Magdeburg.
The students will acquire advanced scientific and practical knowledge in chemical and physical technologies for the manufacture of miniaturized semiconductor components. One focal area of the course is the understanding and independent organization of workflows in a clean room environment as a major aspect of future professional practice in the semiconductor industry, for example as a process or plant engineer or in quality or project management.
“Due to the fact that this field of application holds great promise for the future and also the existing thematic areas, this new study program is highly attractive, and we anticipate strong demand for places,” says the President of the University of Magdeburg, Professor Dr.-Ing. Jens Strackeljan. “I am delighted that the University has been able to put this study program into place so quickly. This speed and flexibility will be needed increasingly as we compete for students in the STEM subjects.”
The four semester-long Master’s program is a restricted-admission program and is conducted in English. A successfully completed Bachelor’s degree or higher education diploma or comparable qualification in Electrical Engineering, Physics or a closely related subject is a condition of admission. The program requires mathematical knowledge as well as knowledge of chemistry, electrical engineering or quantum mechanics. At the start of the program, the differing knowledge bases of the students will be brought into line with one another through harmonization courses. Applicants will be expected to have a highly developed interest in experimental and interdisciplinary science.
The language of tuition is English and proof of language skills to Certificate of Advanced English Level C will be required. Applications must include a letter of motivation. Candidates may apply to the study program until 15 July 2023. Prospective students with an international Bachelor’s degree should apply via the uni-assist portal.
