Collaborative Research Centres

The German Research Foundation (DFG) funds scientific research institutions in the universities, in which researchers work together on an interdisciplinary basis and in scientifically excellent research programmes for up to twelve years.

The Neurobiology of Motivated Behaviour Collaborative Research Centre researches the neuronal principles of motivation-dependent and motivation-governing processes with an interdisciplinary approach that utilises the complementary advantages of animal and human behavioural physiological research approaches.

This Collaborative Research Centre is dedicated to the question of how intra- and inter-cellular communication in the immune system is controlled at molecular level, as this is of central importance for the understanding of physiological and pathophysiological immune reactions.

The focus of this Collaborative Research Centre is the creation and description of oxidic heterostructures with components that feature ferro-electrical, magnetic, semiconductive and insulating properties and thus offer additional degrees of freedom for the design of functional elements.

In the "Semiconductor-Nanophotonics: Materials, Models, Structural Elements" collaborative research centre, scientists are researching novel photonic structural elements, nanomaterials and their mathematical models. These include the development and investigation of laser diodes.

In this collaborative research centre scientists are working both on the neurological principles of the processing of acoustic signals in the auditory system as well as their simulation with the help of computer models. The aim is to explain the mechanisms that are responsible for the extraordinary achievements of the auditory system.

This collaborative research centre deals with companion systems that tailor their functionality wholly individually to the respective user. The researchers are concerned with the systematic investigation of cognitive skills and their implementation in technical systems.

The "Integrated Chemical Processes in Liquid Multiphase Systems" collaborative research centre is dedicated to the use of multicomponent solvent systems. In this connection, chemical processes are executed in liquid multiphase systems with the help of controllable properties.
