Once you have decided upon a certain partner university, you can apply for a WORLDWIDE study place by acceeding to our  Portal Outgoing during the yearly application period.
Every WORLDWIDE applicant may list, and specify, up to three preferences available for his/her OVGU study programme.

Online applications for a study semester at a non-European partner university in the academic year 2025/26, i.e. either for the fall term 2025 or spring term 2026, can be placed from 01 Nov. until 01 Dec.2024.

What do I have to do before applying for a placement?
  1. Please read our websites regarding a WORLDWIDE study placement abroad.
  2. Check language requirements and your own language skills
  3. Attend one "mandatory consultation" session before you prepare your WORLDWIDE online application:
  • We want to get to know you personally, apart from your formal online application.
  • The consultation shall support you with regard to the preparation of your WORLDWIDE online application. This consultation is essential for the organisation of your mobility and a prerequisite for your application.
  • For a successful consultation, you should have developed before a concrete idea about the partner institution/s most favourable for you, and why you would want to study there.
  • Please have your mandatory consultation best before you start to fill your WORLDWIDE application. Book your mandatory consultation appointment here.
  • After the mandatory consultation, you will receive an attendance confirmation via email which you need to attach to your WORLDWIDE online application.
Which steps does the WORLDWIDE application process include?

Please observeFor legal reasons, all students wishing to study abroad must apply with their OVGU student email address. All communication, notifications etc. between the International Office and the students takes place via this student email address only. Please ensure an effortless communication by regularly checking your incoming mail box in the OVGU student account.

Step 1: Online application

Our  Portal for Outgoing Student Mobilitycan be acceeded from November 1st through December 1st. The online application can be continued and completed in one or several sessions. Every application commenced will appear at the very bottom of the page you see after having logged in. You do not need to click "Start" again.

Applications which remain incomplete by the application deadline will not be considered.

The online application is easy to complete and mainly comprises dropdown menus. Plan more time to answer the questions regarding your motivation and of the study plan.

  • Study Plan (part of the online form): For each placement wish, you need to answer the English questions, by demonstrating that you have acquainted yourself with the course offerings at the partner institutions (as far as information on curent offerings is available at the date of application). You should be able to assess, at your own discretion, whether those courses are relevant to your OVGU study programme and/or of interest for your further studies. No need to involve study directors or examination office at that stage of time.
    The four questions of the Study Plan are:
    • Courses you wish to choose: List 3 or 4 courses from the partner university's latest course offerings. Please specify the course level (bachelor or master) and, if possible, the name of the relevant college, department, and/or study programme which offers the relevant course.
    • Are the intended courses adequate for recognition (or otherwise relevant, or complementary) to your OVGU study program?
    • Do you plan to apply for recognition of study abroad subjects for your OVGU studies?
    • How should your academic situation benefit from the intended studies abroad?

Have the following documents ready for upload, as attachments to your online application:

  • curriculum vitae/resume (tabular form);
  • current grade transcript (englische Version, download from LSF portal). In addition to a possibly available current grade overview, all master students also need to upload the bachelor's certificate indicating the final grade and including course and grade overview);
  • current proof of language skills for English and, if applicable, for the host country's official language;
  • current "Studienverlaufsbescheinigung" (certificate of progress of studies, download from LSF/myOVGU);
  • only applicable for some partner institutions (see information on partner institutions in our exchange database):
    current English-language letter of recommendation provided by a lecturer (only professor or PhD holder of your department).
  • confirmation of mandatory consultation

Step 2: Declaration of Commitment

The Declaration of Commitment will validate your online application. It must be submitted to the International Office either in hard copy or via e-mail by the application deadline. Without Declaration of Commitment, no WORLDWIDE application can be considered.

How long can I study at the WORLDWIDE partner institutions?

The annual exchange quotas of the various WORLDWIDE partnerships are limited by contract. Therefore, in principle, we consider applications for only one semester at the same partner university; in individual cases and after prior consultation, an application for two consecutive semesters may be consented.

Please note: A 1-semester mobility (course + examination period) lasts a maximum of 4 or 5 months.

What are the selection criteria for a WORLDWIDE placement?

Selection is made in joint consultation by the relevant departmental/faculty coordinators and the International Office staff.
Selection criteria are:

  • recent academic performance (current grade, while considering equivalent study progress/number of ECTS accomplished)
  • language skills relevant for the country of destination
  • quality of the study plan you have developed
  • motivation
  • social commitment/volunteering, in student or other bodies.
