As part of the SmartMES plus project, a technical visit was conducted to the NEXOGAS biogas plant in Ebendorf near Magdeburg. The guided tour provided valuable insights into modern operational concepts for biogas plants and their role in enabling flexible and integrated energy systems.

From July 19 to 23, 2026, LENA was represented at the IEEE PES General Meeting in Montréal - one of the world’s most important conferences on electrical power engineering. Christoph Andres presented two technical papers, including one that ranked among the top five percent of all submissions and was presented during the Best Paper Session. In addition, Prof. Martin Wolter chaired an international panel discussion on the impact of AI data centers on grid stability.

The Chair of Electrical Power Networks and Renewable Energy (LENA) participated in the 24th Power Systems Computation Conference (PSCC 2026), which took place June 8–12, 2026, in Limassol, Cyprus. The prestigious international conference brought together more than 300 researchers and experts from academia and industry to discuss the latest developments in computational methods for electrical power systems. The papers presented by the LENA Chair will be published after the conference in a special issue of the journal Electric Power Systems Research (EPSR).

On June 26, 2026, students from the Department of Electrical Networks and Renewable Energy at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, together with staff from the Department of Electrical Energy Storage Technology at Clausthal University of Technology, visited ENERCON’s production plant in Magdeburg.

The 2026 IEEE PES Transmission & Distribution Conference & Exposition took place from May 4–7, 2026, in Chicago, USA. Hosted at McCormick Place’s South Building, the 2026 edition highlighted the scale of the event, with more than 18,000 professionals, 933 exhibitors, and participants from 89 countries.
