Objectives

The Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Neuroscience & Cognition offers a unique study programme that combines the teaching of basic knowledge of the neuro- and cognitive sciences with an in-depth philosophical education. Alongside fundamental, systematic knowledge of philosophical thought (with the focus on the philosophy of the mind and the philosophy of science), students also acquire knowledge in the areas of neuroscience, computer science and psychology. Moreover, students are taught the skills to enable them to apply the knowledge they have gained in their professional lives.

Career Perspectives

Graduates are qualified to begin work immediately in all established liberal arts professions, such as the media and publishing, cultural and science management, public relations, adult education, human resources or work in associations, parties and commissions. Moreover, the course lays a solid foundation for continued academic training as part of a Master’s degree course in philosophy or, in individual cases, neuroscience. In particular, at OVGU it is possible for students to extend their studies on a consecutive MA in Philosophy, Neuroscience and Cognition.

Competencies and Interests Required

An interest in philosophical and scientific issues, solid mathematical knowledge, the readiness to think and research independently, a strong interest in reading, enjoyment of reasoning and discourse, and a wide-ranging general education are prerequisites for admission to this course.
