Yes, all nine faculties of the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg are affected by the postponement of the lecture schedule to the summer semester 2020. The medical faculty is also affected. Important: This only refers to the attendance phase. Online lectures can be held from April 6, 2020. This is the responsibility of the lecturers. Students will be informed of this by them.
We also publish news about the situation on our social media channels.
Please also check your mail account of the university!
No. In principle, the 2020 summer semester begins on 1 April. Until April 20, only precision teaching is suspended. Therefore, there will be no courses with personal presence of students on site. Nevertheless, courses can already be realised via online offers from 06.04.2020. Please read carefully the details for your courses in the LSF or check your OVGU mail address.
The teaching staff of the university is intensively engaged in working out supplementary, alternative or substitute formats for the time when no classroom events can take place. The form in which these offers are made available (teaching videos, extended scripts, livestreams, chat rooms...) depends on the respective subject culture, the learning goals of the individual modules, but also on the resources available. Please have a look at the LSF or contact your lecturer!
It is important that students register for all modules/courses in the LSF according to the registration deadline (usually 06.04.2020) with a current e-mail address. This is the only way for teachers to contact you for the first time and inform you about the procedure (further contact platform, formats, tasks etc.) and the special features of the respective module.
No, the deadlines for term papers and theses are not automatically extended by the postponement of the start of the semester
The examination periods were suspended until 20 April 2020. There will be no examinations.
For defending final theses, an individual case examination may be carried out, taking into account all circumstances. Students contact their examiners and the responsible examination office by phone or e-mail. Final exams that (must) take place in seminar form or with the participation of an extended audience will be suspended until April 20.
Oral examinations are also affected by this rule and will not be held.
As soon as the attendance events are possible again, dates for the cancelled examinations will be fixed. Thus, the exams from WS 19/20 will be taken during the summer semester. It is important to note that you must re-register for the new dates, as the registration for the actual examination date has lost its validity.
The postponement of the start of lectures to 20 April 2020 should not be connected with an extension of the course time in the summer semester. However, this situation is related to the overall situation in Germany and is subject to reservations.
You can still validate your student card.
You will find further validation stations in the following buildings:
- Building 06 (entrance area)
Important: Due to the location at the University Hospital, students of the Medical Faculty are also requested to visit the main campus for validation.
The following institutions of the university currently do not offer personal consultation hours:
- all examination offices of the faculties
- Student secretariat
- Campus Service Center
- International Office
- human resources department
- Promotion Office
- University Computing Center
- Sportcenter (including sports courses)
- Graduate Academy

The facilities can be reached as usual by e-mail or telephone.

Applications for enrolment or de-registration and other written correspondence concerning the organisation of studies can be dropped in the letterbox in front of building 9 (Security Service). Attention: Please use the red mailbox with the Otto-von-Guericke logo, not the letterbox of the Biberpost! In addition, you can also send these applications by post to the relevant institutions.
Some examination offices have mailboxes in which you can throw homework. It is also possible to use the mailbox in front of building 9 (security service). Please note: Use the red mailbox with the Otto-von-Guericke logo, not the beaver mailbox! In addition, you can also send these chores by mail to the responsible institutions. Please try to meet the deadlines set! You'll find more infos online on the Website of our Campus Service Center.
For the submission of final theses please contact your responsible examination office in advance!
Yes, the university library is closed until further notice. Some offers of the UB can be used! Further informations can be found here.
If your defence date (due to the current corona situation) has to be postponed to the coming summer semester as the last examination performance, you do not have to re-register for the summer semester 2020. By registering for the Bachelor's or Master's thesis, you have already entered into the legal examination relationship with the OVGU in due time. The completion of this examination is not necessarily linked to your matriculation status.
Currently, the deadline of 15 June 2020 applies to prove that you have successfully completed your Bachelor's degree by means of a certificate. If you have defended by 15 June, but do not receive the certificate in time due to the current situation, you will remain enrolled in the Master's programme if you can prove that the defence took place.
Please contact the responsible office by phone or e-mail to coordinate the further procedure; changes will be communicated via your student e-mail address or via the websites of the examination offices of the faculties. Please save the website of your examination office as a bookmark and check it regularly for updates.
In case of an Erasmus+ stay abroad:
Students who go to the regions concerned to complete an Erasmus+ stay and then abandon it, will receive their Erasmus grant for the days spent abroad or the costs incurred if they return early, even if the minimum duration is not reached. Affected regions are areas declared as such by the respective national authority.
If you are already abroad to study, please inform your examination office in case you wish to drop out and ask your questions about the possible recognition of subjects and grades in this special case. If you have any (travel) organizational questions, please contact the International Office. (E-Mail).
Registration will remain legally valid, only the dates will change. The existing legal examination relationship with the OVGU continues to exist. New examination dates should be announced as soon as possible. The exact procedure is currently being reviewed. If you wish to withdraw from the examination, please contact your responsible examination office.
Changes will be communicated via your student e-mail address or via the websites of the examination offices of the faculties. Please save the website of your examination office as a bookmark and check it regularly for updates.
