Realization winter semester

09.10.2020 -

With the start of the introductory days of the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg on October 19, 2020, a new hygiene concept will apply to all university members. As a hybrid semester, the winter semester 2020/21 will combine online teaching and on-campus classroom events. The university is taking numerous preventive measures to make it possible to return to events on the university premises. The university management appeals to all relatives to adapt their behavior to the special circumstances and to master everyday university life with a sense of proportion and the necessary sensitivity. The health of all students, employees and guests is a top priority for the University of Magdeburg.

The entire concept will can be found here.

Key points for the implementation of the winter semester 2020/21

1. General behavior on campus

  • The AHA rules apply on the entire campus (keep your distance, observe hygiene, wear masks in buildings)
  • To protect against infections, the general coughing and sneezing etiquette and the observance of personal hygiene, in particular the regular proper washing of hands, are generally referred to. Sufficient distance must be maintained to other persons (minimum distance: 1.5 meters).
  • All public buildings of the university may only be entered with a mouth-and-nose cover.
  • Avoid direct contact, such as hugging or shaking hands.
  • Used rooms must be ventilated frequently and thoroughly
  • If (combined) signs of illness such as cough, rhinitis, shortness of breath, increased temperature or fever occur, please stay at home or leave the premises of the Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg and consult your doctor by phone.
  • The University of Magdeburg must be informed immediately if a COVID-19 infection is present or if OVGU-relatives are affected in category I

As contact persons of category I are considered:
(close contact with higher risk of infection)

  • Frequent contact with people with at least 15 minutes of face-to-face contact, e.g. during a conversation. This includes, for example, people from cohabiting households in the same household.
  • Persons with direct contact with secretions or body fluids, especially respiratory secretions of a confirmed COVID-19 case, e.g. kissing, contact with vomit, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, coughing, sneezing, etc.
  • Persons who, according to a risk assessment by the responsible public health department, were most likely exposed to a relevant concentration of aerosols (e.g. celebrating, singing together or doing sports indoors).

2. Conducting courses in the winter semester 2020/21

  • Teaching in the winter semester 2020/21 is a combination of classroom teaching and digital teaching. The faculties and teachers are responsible for the design of the courses.
  • The number of classroom sessions is based on the room capacities under corona conditions and is subject to the hygiene concept.
  • Students are required to register for courses in the LSF. All courses can be viewed from 16 October 2020. The currently visible plan (except for the higher semesters of medicine) is not the final version.
  • In order to trace possible infection chains, it is necessary to register participants in courses, exams, etc. using a QR code in the lecture halls or seminar rooms. The better the contact persons are traceable, the faster the responsible public health department can categorize and narrow down the relevant contact persons in case of infection. This helps to prevent a nationwide quarantine as far as possible and to keep the university running. (Information on the procedure will follow!)
  • Within the rooms and lecture halls of the university, only the marked places are to be occupied. Students and employees are asked to pay attention to the given directions.
  • Update 20 October 2020: On the way to the square and during the courses, students must wear a mouth-nose cover. which can be removed during the course.
  • Before and after each course, the rooms must be ventilated for at least 10 - 15 minutes, depending on the size and number of participants. This is the responsibility of the respective teacher.
  • Rooms that cannot be ventilated or do not have automatic ventilation cannot be used for classroom teaching.
