Who can apply for an IAESTE Placement?

Students of technical and natural sciences (and in exceptional cases students of economics).

Application Process

November
February
  • IAESTE national exchange conference for the issuing of places to the individual university;
  • a number of placements will be offered to the international Office;
  • applicants are invited to choose a placement;
  • nomination by the International Office;
  • if successfully nominated, application documents must be prepared for the employer;
  • where applicable, submit application to the DAAD for travel grant;
  • application documents are sent to the foreign national committee (NC) and/or the employer.
March
  • Placements for which no application are received return to the pool to enable students from all universities to apply for them;
  • pool closes 31 March;
  • IAESTE placements that are not selected return to the employers.
May - June
  • Foreign employers send acceptance documents via the DAAD.

What you need to know about IAESTE Placements and what IAESTE Magdeburg can do for you

  • Duration: as a rule, placements last between four and twelve weeks; some may last longer. In a few exceptional cases and depending on country, placements of up to a year are also possible.
  • Accommodation: the local committee in the destination country will arrange accommodation during the placement.
  • Remuneration: depending on the employee, remuneration will paid weekly or monthly. Normally this should cover local living costs.
  • Supervision: the local committeee in the destination country will look after you and also organise excursions and events.
  • Travel grant: for placements outside of the EU, in central and eastern European countries and overseas, it is possible to apply for travel grant. For more details, see below.
  • Work permit: your work permit will be applied for by the national committee in your host country. Please only apply for one yourself if you have been expressly requested to do so by the national committee.
  • Visa: it is often easier to base your application for a visa on your official letter of invitation. However you must apply for the visa yourself.
  • Advice: the International Office provides comprehensive advice on placements and will support you during the application phase.

Informationen zum Fahrtkostenzuschuss

IAESTE-Praktikant/inn/en, egal ob sie im IAESTE-Programm ein von ihrer Fakultät vorgeschriebenes oder empfohlenes Praktikum absolvieren möchten, können beim DAAD einen Antrag auf einen Fahrtkostenzuschuss stellen, wenn das Praktikum außerhalb der EU stattfindet und mindestens 4 Wochen und maximal 12 Monate dauert. Gefördert werden nur Praktika in außereuropäischen Ländern sowie in Albanien, Belarus, Bosnien, Island, Mazedonien, Moldawien, Montenegro, Russland, Serbien, in der Türkei und in der Ukraine.
Die jeweiligen Fördersätze sind hier (Stand 2013) abrufbar, weitere Informationen in den Vergaberichtlinien von 2014 sowie beim DAAD.

Seit 2014 läuft der Antrag auf einen Fahrtkostenzuschuss über das DAAD-Portal. Der Antrag muss auf jeden Fall vor Praktikumsbeginn eingehen, idealerweise jedoch 2 Monate vorher.
