The members of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg are committed to the integration and education of the political refugees seeking asylum in Germany. The beginning of the winter semester saw an opportunity for those housed in the city and surrounding area to listen to university lectures as guests. The procedure is not complicated. Fees are automatically waived on all guest student applications. There are already all sorts of other help and support opportunities, with intense work under way on more.
The university’s efforts focus on language training and preparing for regular studies. We care very much about supporting refugees in continuing their academic education, and also about giving school-leavers with suitable qualifications access to higher education. We are happy to open our doors to refugee scientists seeking a foothold in the academic world.
There are currently 2200 young men and women from 94 countries studying at our university. They play a major role in the further development of our university, the city and the state as a whole. Refugees interested in studying would also be an enrichment.
