Objectives

Students obtain solid knowledge of psychological principles and fundamental specialist knowledge in the applied disciplines of psychology, in order, on the one hand, to acquire the general and specialist skills required for their working lives and, on the other hand, to enable them to complete a further professional qualification in the form of a Master's degree. In the process, established theories are combined with psychological application problems and developments from practice so that the students gain both academic qualifications and the ability to act in the professional sphere.

Career Perspectives

Graduates are qualified for a variety of careers in hospitals, psychological counselling centres, further education institutions etc. However, the Bachelor’s degree in Psychology only qualifies graduates for routine psychological work, which as a rule is overseen by holders of a Master’s degree in Psychology (Dipl.-Psychologe / M.Sc.).

Competencies and Interests Required

Alongside the general qualification, to achieve success on this course, programme-specific requirements such as knowledge of mathematical and scientific ways of thinking and working, plus knowledge of the English language, are recommended. Students whose knowledge of English / mathematics is poor should complete additional training in these subjects prior to commencement of the course.

More information

In the first part of the course, the students gain knowledge of basic psychological issues and methods of resolution, plus basic knowledge of the different sub-disciplines and psychological methodology. In addition, they acquire professional skills in electronic data collection, processing and evaluation, and application software. In the second part of the course, the students complete their basic psychological education. This area is divided into foundation, diagnostic and applied areas. The students are introduced to independent scientific work by means of an empirical, experimental practical course.
