The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience, IAESTE short, is an international, non-political, independent organization to provide internships abroad. It was founded in 1948 at Imperial College in London to contribute to the promotion of international understanding. IAESTE has since worked successfully with various UN agencies, including with UNESCO, ECOSOC and UNIDO.

Since 1950 Germany is member of the organization and is supported by the German Committee of IAESTE in the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Since its founding more than 300,000 internships in over 85 countries have been recruited, including 50,000 in Germany alone. In 2006, about 700 German employers have participated in the IAESTE trainee exchange. The focus is on the fields of engineering and natural sciences, and agriculture and forestry. IAESTE students are on the worldwide exchange program with the opportunity to gather in a sound environment international work experience.

The IAESTE internships are designed to provide foreign university students the opportunity to expand during the undergraduate application of knowledge in areas of industry, research or administration in accordance with technical requirements of their future profession and to deepen.

If an entity or organization for the exchange of trainees to participate as needed IAESTE only the desired requirements: expected qualification (s) in fulfilling tasks of the trainee, beginning and duration of the internship and a number of other information. In all the countries participating in the IAESTE program, the internship offers received will be collected and replaced on a yearly conference. The German Committee of IAESTE will then issue for each provided internship in Germany, a space for German students who want to do an internship abroad. In this way, each participating country places on offer from abroad, which can be taught to qualified and highly motivated students.

When arranging the respective predetermined requirements is included of course. The German Committee of IAESTE in the DAAD head of the foreign application of a suitable candidate to you, the employer in Germany further. You decide on the acceptance of the candidate and the DAAD to share with their decision. The DAAD receives the student's certificate of acceptance of the employer. The mediation service through IAESTE is completely free of charge and places no obligations. It only covered costs for the remuneration of the internship activities.

Be agreed by the IAESTE - Member countries should cover the remuneration of trainees the cost of living of the student during the stay in the host country. Currently, in Germany, a fee of EUR 650 monthly salary for the living as appropriate. If companies in the services of interns direct economic benefit (eg for use in the production), should the amount of the respective wage rates to be adapted. The DAAD can, in certain cases, foreign trainees by the Foreign Office to grant a compensation payment. This funding mechanism is provided for training courses in institutions that do not budget for the training of interns is available.

In general, the IAESTE trainees exempt from income tax and social insurance. There will be a sickness, accident and personal liability insurance of interns
