Research Topics

The product quality (such as uniformity, layer thickness) of particles formulated in spray fluidized beds depends heavily on the process conditions. Another problem is the treatment of heat-sensitive materials, e.g. enzymes, their deactivation being highly undesirable in the process.  In order to achieve a high product quality, various possible process configurations are available but not well understood so far. The goal of this project is to investigate the influence of reduced pressure on the combined granulation and drying in fluidized beds using mathematical process models  (e.g. population balances, CFD). The models will be parametrised using measurement data from industrial plants, to obtain correlations for the optimization and process design of industrial-scale plants.
