Objectives

The study programme offers a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education. Students acquire practical skills through various projects and internships as well as basic knowledge in mathematics, engineering, economics and business administration (compulsory modules). This enables students to solve complex tasks that inherent economical and technological aspects. They are capable of designing, controlling and implementing logistics processes and systems, as well as global production and transporting networks. They acquire knowledge and skills to organize the flow of commodities and information, the partnership between logistics service providers and their worldwide customers and to design products of material handling systems. To further increase their expertise, students can sharpen their professional profile according to their personal interests. After completing the compulsory program, students can increase their expertise individually by selecting their preferred modules.

Career Perspectives

The study programme offers a broad field of work as Logistician in middle and senior management positions. Graduates are able to take on management tasks an solve complex problems in collaboration with specialists in computer science, production and automation technology, etc. Possible work fields are industrial companies of all sizes and sectors, in the service provider sector as well as in the retail sector and administration.

Competencies and Interests Required

Required competencies are sound knowledge in mathematics and interest in computer science and technology, good communication and organizational skills, interest in thinking in systems, structures, control loops, in complex problem-solving, in working in interdisciplinary teams and in taking on management tasks.

The logistics study programme at the Otto-von-Guericke University in Magdeburg offers a broad, demanding and interdisciplinary education in both scientific and application-oriented aspects. The Logistik Werktstatt as a concept of modern education forms the core of the task oriented study programme and is unique in Germany. It links the acquired knowledge in the different fields of education when problem-solving through a series of semester projects and internships. Thus it creates the precondition for practical, logistics-related application at an early stage. The aim is to develop skills and abilities for the systematic analysis of logistical problems and for the planning, designing, dimensioning and evaluating socio-technical processes and systems.
